3-Year Projection
By RISE Business Framework · Created by Gary Harper and Brandon McCurdy · Reviewed
A three-year projection is a picture of where your business will be in three years. It helps you chart an ambitious but achievable path. RISE captures the date, revenue, gross profit, net profit and deliverables. It then lists what you will need: team, products, customers, locations, departments, marketing and your role.
How RISE does it
- Think both short and long term, from market share to a more sustainable brand.
- Set the five header numbers: date, revenue, gross profit, net profit and deliverables.
- List what you will need three years from now across seven areas.
- Include your own role, not just the company's.
3-Year Projection is one of four tools in Short-Term Vision, part of the Inspiration quadrant of the RISE Business Framework.

“While long-term vision sets the trajectory for our ambition, much like a distant lighthouse guiding ships to the shore, it's the short-term vision that provides the actionable steps.”Gary Harper

Frequently asked questions
How do you create a three-year business plan?
Set your target date, revenue, gross profit, net profit and deliverables. Then list what you will need in team, products, customers, locations, departments, marketing and your own role.
Why plan three years ahead instead of five?
Three years is far enough to be ambitious but close enough to chart a realistic path. RISE then breaks it into a 1-Year Target and 90-Day Sprints.
The other tools in Short-Term Vision
- 1-Year TargetSet this year's numbers and four annual commitments in each RISE quadrant.
- 90-Day SprintA quarter-sized slice of the yearly goal, with four F.A.S.T. goals in each RISE quadrant.
- The FourThe four projects that must happen in the next 90 days, each broken into milestones.
