What is effective meetings?

By RISE Business Framework · Created by Gary Harper and Brandon McCurdy · Reviewed

Effective meetings are scheduled, structured meetings where problems get solved, tasks get assigned and progress gets measured. RISE runs four meeting types on a set rhythm: Culture and Strategic meetings quarterly, Organizational meetings weekly, and Tactical meetings daily and weekly. Each meeting reviews one of the four Stoplight Report indicators.

Key takeaways

  • RISE uses four meeting types: Culture, Strategic, Organizational and Tactical.
  • Culture and Strategic meetings are quarterly. Organizational meetings are weekly.
  • Tactical meetings include a 5-minute daily Process Huddle and a weekly Systems 60.
  • Each meeting reviews one indicator: Purpose, Profit, Performance or Process.
  • Every agenda ends by scheduling the next meeting.

Effective Meetings in the RISE Business Framework

Effective Meetings is the first topic in the Systems quadrant of RISE. It gives your business a fixed meeting rhythm with a written agenda for every meeting.

The structure is simple. Each meeting type is paired with one Stoplight Report indicator. The Culture Meeting reviews the Key Purpose Indicator. The Strategic Meeting reviews Key Profit Indicators. The Organizational Meeting reviews Key Performance Indicators. Tactical Meetings review Key Process Indicators.

Why effective meetings matters

Without a rhythm, meetings happen when something breaks. Problems get discussed but not assigned. The same issues come back week after week.

Without agendas tied to numbers, meetings drift into status updates. Nobody checks the targets that matter. Leaders lose sight of purpose, profit and daily execution at the same time.

“Effective meetings are the linchpin of a productive business culture.”Gary Harper
