Mobility Assessment
By RISE Business Framework · Created by Gary Harper and Brandon McCurdy · Reviewed
A mobility assessment gauges a person's potential to grow into future roles. In RISE it is the Feet and comes last. Four willingness questions ask whether the person will take on new challenges, learn and improve, communicate, and think critically to solve problems. The answers inform growth paths and succession.
How RISE does it
- Determines what future roles a candidate or team member could someday grow into.
- The final assessment in the Heart, Head, Hands, Feet sequence.
- All four questions are phrased as willingness.
- Feeds succession planning for critical roles.
Mobility Assessment is one of four tools in Talent Optimization, part of the Resources quadrant of the RISE Business Framework.
The RISE tool
Mobility Assessment questions (Feet)
- 1Are you willing to take on new challenges?
- 2Are you willing to learn and improve?
- 3Are you willing to communicate?
- 4Are you willing to be a critical thinker and problem solver?
“Evaluating the Feet involves assessing an individual's potential for upward mobility and growth within the organization. It's the compass that points to their capacity to adapt, learn, and evolve.”Gary Harper

Frequently asked questions
How do you identify employees with high potential?
Look at willingness, not just current performance. RISE asks whether the person will take on challenges, learn, communicate and solve problems.
How does a mobility assessment help succession planning?
It shows who could grow into a critical role. That helps you build the internal bench the RISE succession grid measures.
