Behavioral Assessment
By RISE Business Framework · Created by Gary Harper and Brandon McCurdy · Reviewed
A behavioral assessment measures what drives a person and how they tend to act at work. In RISE it is the Head. You use a tool such as Predictive Index, DISC or KOLBE. Then you plot five factor scales for Self and for Self Concept to compare natural and adapted behavior.
How RISE does it
- Determines what drives the person and their cognitive ability.
- Built around Predictive Index; DISC or KOLBE also fit the assessment.
- Five factor scales, each with two poles.
- Plotted twice: Self (natural) and Self Concept (adapted or expected).
Behavioral Assessment is one of four tools in Talent Optimization, part of the Resources quadrant of the RISE Business Framework.
The RISE tool
Behavioral factor scales
Plot each scale twice: once for Self and once for Self Concept.
| Left pole | Right pole |
|---|---|
| Collaborative | Independent |
| Reserve | Sociable |
| Driving | Steady |
| Flexible | Precise |
| Subjective | Objective |
“In the dance of talent assessment, the Head represents behavioral traits and cognitive abilities. It's the conductor of actions and decisions, guiding individuals in different situations.”Gary Harper

Frequently asked questions
What is the best behavioral assessment for hiring?
RISE does not require one tool. The RISE Business Assessment names Predictive Index, DISC and KOLBE as examples; what matters is that you use one consistently.
What is the difference between Self and Self Concept?
Self is how a person naturally behaves. Self Concept is how they think they are expected to behave. RISE plots both to see where someone is adapting.
